P320 AXG Full – Post Apocalyptic Blaster

P320 AXG Full

I was apprehensive about the P320 when I decided to give it a go. I’ve been shooting for the last 15 years and have had hands on with high round counts on many pistols. I didn’t want to count out the P320 because of the negative press. When I first started shooting, I remember reports of KB’s, Glock leg, voluntary upgrades, 9mm isn’t enough, etc. I didn’t let that stop me from buying my first Glock and the idea of the FCU in the P320 intrigued me.

Below is everything I learned over the last year running the P320 Full AXG:

I like full size pistols. They have less recoil, longer sight radius, more velocity and fit better with full size weapon lights than their compact cousins. I own more than one gun, so I’m not looking for a Goldilocks pistol to CCW and run all day at the range. I believe in playing to strengths.

With a full size pistol, I’m looking for something that can:

  • Run comfortably from an OWB setup
  • Full size grip with a fast reload
  • Pairs well with a full size weaponlight (TLR-1 or X300 variants)
  • Has healthy aftermarket support for necessities (sights, lights and holsters)
  • Reasonable capacity 17+1 with extended options

Enter My P320 AXG Full

This thing looks like it would be right at home fighting for resources in a post apocalyptic wasteland. The AXG grip module interfaced easily with my P320 full. When in hand, it inspires confidence like a hammer or a chainsaw. It eats recoil and I just like metal pistols.

The P320 AXG Full has also been one of the easiest pistols for me to teach new shooters with.

I’m not a fan of over the top slide cuts. The overall profile of this pistol feels like a striker fired P226. I dig it.

Grips

I went with the Sig factory rosewood grips because I’m a sucker for this look. Wood and metal add a touch of class in a sea of striker-fired plastic.

Jawbone P320 AXG CCW Magwell

This magwell speeds up my reload but, more importantly to me, adds a grip shelf for my support hand pinky finger. I find this very useful when slamming on the gas. I’m not a huge fan of large competition magwells because they add more bulk than I think is necessary for my preferences.

The Jawbone P320 Magwell doesn’t add extra width. I see this as everything I want and nothing I don’t want. If you are running it on a compact or x-carry, it’ll still conceal well.

For my purposes it speeds up my reloads, runs well with Sig Legion floor plates and with the OEM 21 round mags. At the end of the day, this thing just looks mean.

Best Weapon Light for the P320 Full

For my money the best weapon light for the P320 Full is the Streamlight TLR-1. I ended up buying a used TLR-1S from Aimsuprlus for $59 and I absolutely love how this setup looks and functions. It’s 2024 and pistols need lumens. There are many proven options on the market. Don’t get left in the dark.

A weapon light is the first upgrade I tell everyone who is new to firearms to buy. I would argue that it is more important than upgraded sights.

Personal preference: I like flush fit lights. I don’t use my light as a standoff device. I like putting the proportional size on each gun. These days my favorite is the Streamlight TLR-1 HL and all other variants but, I am also fond of the X300 series from Surefire. If it’s a compact I love the Streamlight TLR-7A.

Sights

I run a blacked out rear and fiber optic front also purchased from Aimsurplus. I like fiber optic sights. They glow in the daylight like neon in a SciFi movie and dominate on the range. There are no electronics and they’re still bright in the dark when coupled with a weapon light. These ran me $39 and have served me very well in the last year.

FCU

The FCU in my P320 is OEM. I actually like the curved trigger geometry and felt no desire to lighten the pull weight.

Guide Rod

I changed my guide rod and recoil spring with Wilson Combat parts, followed the instructions on their website for my purposes and ran with the #14 spring. I haven’t had an issue running the hotter loads but shot mostly target FMJ ammo in the last year. It looks better and it made the action smoother. I’ll try the #15 if running a steady diet of hotter ammo.

“We recommend a 14# spring (# 703G-14) for standard velocity/target loads and a 15# spring (# 10G15) for standard/+P.” – From Wilson Combat Website

Running the lighter recoil spring does two things for you:

  1. It allows you to run lighter ammo if you get a batch of underpowered stuff or competition ammo.
  2. It makes followup shots faster because the gun is not slamming home as hard every time it returns to battery.

P320 AXG Full Holster

A good holster is a vital accessory to any pistol. Adding weapon lights can make finding a good holster more complicated. I’m a fan of the ALS series by Safariland. I find the retention intuitive and non-hindering.

Retention is a huge plus if fighting the zombies on the open road in a post apocalyptic dystopia.

Conclusion

This thing is one badass blaster.
